The big story of the week: a horrific scene in Parkland, Florida -- a high school shooting that left 17 people dead. We know this cycle all too well in New England, with the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012. Almost immediately, the conversation turned to gun control at the national and state levels.
Also this week -- not one, but two western Massachusetts state representatives announced they would not run for re-election. In a development that could impact the region's clout on Beacon Hill, Steve Kulik of Worthington and John Scibak of South Hadley both said they would retire at the end of the term.
Then we consider Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren's move to take on President Trump's "Pocahontas" taunts. Warren this week made a surprise speech at the National Congress of American Indians. While her mother is part Native American, Warren told the crowd, she understands the distinction between heritage and tribal hip.
