An official in East Windsor, Connecticut, said he thinks a proposed casino in his town is on track, despite reported efforts by Governor Ned Lamont to stop it.
According to The Hartford Courant, Lamont asked two Indian tribes not to move forward with plans to build a casino in East Windsor.
He's apparently concerned about litigation from MGM, which has a casino in Springfield, just 12 miles away. Robert Maynard is the first selectman of East Windsor.
"We have the full of the tribal nations — the Mashantucket Pequot and the Mohegan tribes," he said. "I'm sure that in the end, there will probably be both a casino here in East Windsor, and one in Bridgeport."
In a statement, a spokesman for Lamont declined to directly address what he told the tribes. The spokesman said the governor hasn't issued any kind of ultimatum, but is extremely concerned that the East Windsor project isn't further along.
A spokesman for the t casino venture said the tribes are not willing to walk away from a project where they've invested nearly $20 million.
