A Massachusetts civil rights group has asked the Hampden County District Attorney’s office to divulge how much it knew about misconduct by Springfield police officers, and how it’s responded.
Last month, an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice revealed a pattern of excessive force by of the Springfield Police Department, and found some officers had falsified reports.
In a letter to District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, the ACLU of Massachusetts and the state’s public defenders office said they want to make ensure defendants are getting all the information that could impact their cases.
Rahssan Hall with the Massachusetts ACLU said, “If you have an instance where an officer has falsified a police report and the prosecution of that case relied on falsified evidence, it raises significant questions about the integrity and veracity of any subsequent prosecutions involving that officer.”
